MEET SAM

Sam Hindi is a proud Palestinian American who emigrated from Lebanon in 1983 in pursuit of his education and the American dream.

Building long lasting relationships, integrity and goodwill are the principles that guide Sam in his personal, professional and public life. 

 

Sam and his wife have lived in Foster City for 28  years, where their three children attended schools in the San Mateo Foster City School District.

 

Prior to his election to the City Council,  Sam held numerous volunteer and leadership roles in Foster City, including: Vice-chair Foster City’s Parks and Recreation Committee, team leader for Foster City’s Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) and Chair of the Board of Directors for the Foster City Chamber of Commerce.  Sam is a graduate of San Mateo, Foster City, Burlingame and Hillsborough Leadership Program.

In 2015, Sam was elected to the Foster City Council and served as Mayor in 2018 and 2019. During his tenure on the City Council, Sam served on numerous regional boards representing and advocating for Foster City including City/County Association of Governments of San Mateo County (C/CAG, Bay Area Water Supply & Conservation Agency (BAWSCA) Housing Endowment and Regional Fund of San Mateo County and San Mateo County’s Transportation Demand Management Agency(Commute.org).  Locally, Sam has served on many City Council committees including, Economic Development Subcommittee, Sustainability Subcommittee,  and Long Term Strategic Planning Subcommittee.  

As a small local business owner, Sam owns Hillsdale Arco, ampm, and Hillsdale Arco Auto Repair in Foster City.  Sam prides himself on his customer service skills and customer satisfaction is his driving principle.  Prior to acquiring Hillsdale Arco, Sam was the President and CEO of American Couriers.  He started American Couriers from his one bedroom apartment in 1988 and built it into a multi-million dollar company, serving ten states. 

 

In his free time Sam enjoys the company of his family and friends, whom he finds to be the source of his energy and inspiration.  He also enjoys outdoor activities, especially cycling and skiing.
