VISION AND LONG-TERM STRATEGIC PLANNING

San Mateo County is at a crossroads. We have an extraordinary opportunity in front of us to create a new vision and adopt a new long-term strategy, one which will protect and maintain the quality of life we have all come to enjoy.  Moreover, we can build a sustainable future that builds upon our wonderful foundation and takes us forward.   We can do so through smart and responsible initiatives that embrace our community's economic, social, and environmental future.  There is no better time to look forward and plan for the years ahead so that San Mateo County remains a great place to live, work, and play.

ESSENTIAL SERVICES AND PUBLIC SAFETY

It is vital to maintain and improve the county infrastructure of roadways, sidewalks, water, wastewater, lagoon and levee facilities for the benefit of the community, and to do so in an efficient manner while still providing a safe working environment for employees and the public.

So too is the need to stand behind our Police and Fire departments, to ensure their abilities to deliver the highest level of service. As the Mayor of Foster City, I had the honor of overseeing the consolidation of our fire department with Belmont, Foster City, and San Mateo. This consolidation provides additional firefighting resources at a lower cost to Foster City. As a council member in Foster City, I continue to work hard to make sure that our police and firefighters have the resources and training they need to keep our neighborhoods safe and protected. As a County Central Committee Member, I will ensure that cities in San Mateo County will continue to improve and maintain the and improve the standards of community safety.

PROMOTE, SUPPORT AND DIVERSIFY BUSINESS

As a local small business owner and former Chair of the Board of Directors for Foster City’s Chamber of Commerce, I have first-hand knowledge of the challenges and opportunities facing our business community.  Moreover,  I have come to appreciate just how the critical linkage between the economic health of our community and the success of our businesses.  This symbiotic relationship is reflected throughout the Peninsula, we must protect, maintain, promote, and grow the economic and business resources in San Mateo County while we strive to enhance the quality of life in the community and protect its natural resources

AFFORDABLE HOUSING AND DIVERSITY

The cost of housing in our community and the Bay Area has reached unprecedented levels.  We have witnessed the loss of community members due to the lack of affordable housing.  I will work to address preserving and increasing our stock of affordable housing so our teachers, firefighters, nurses and others who serve our community can live among us if they choose to.

PROVIDE FISCAL ACCOUNTABILITY AND MAINTAIN A BALANCED BUDGET

By creating a new vision and adopting a new long-term strategy, we will need to make sure the necessary funds are dedicated to building a sustainable future to continue to enhance our quality of life.  As a council member of Foster City, I review and explore diversified revenue sources to make sure that smart and responsible initiatives that embrace the economic, social, and environmental needs of our community are met. In doing so, I will commit to making sure fiscal accountability is in place and that we strive for a balanced budget. As a County Central Committee Member, I will work to promote this responsible policy-making agenda across the county.

PROTECT PARKS AND OPEN SPACE

As a former Vice-chair of Foster City's Parks and Recreation Committee, I am passionate about protecting and maintaining our parks and open space.  As a council member, I continue to push for expanded public access to our parks and open space and I work to enhance the "play" area in Foster City for our families, residents, workforce, and visitors. I will work with local leaders to promote similar policies as countywide as a County Central Committee member.
