VISION AND LONG TERM STRATEGIC PLANNING
Foster City is at a crossroads. The original plan created by T. Jack Foster over forty years ago has nearly been realized. We have an extraordinary opportunity in front of us to create a new vision and adopt a new long-term strategy, one which will protect and maintain the quality of life we have all come to enjoy. Moreover, we can build a sustainable future which builds upon our wonderful foundation and takes us forward. We can do so through smart and responsible initiatives that embrace the economic, social and environmental future of our community. There is no better time to look forward and plan for the years ahead so that Foster City remains a great place to live, work and play.
ESSENTIAL SERVICES AND PUBLIC SAFETY
It is vital to maintain and improve the City/District infrastructure of roadways, sidewalks, water, wastewater, lagoon and levee facilities for the benefit of the community, and to do so in an efficient manner while still providing a safe working environment for employees and the public.
So too is the need to stand behind our Police and Fire departments, to ensure their abilities to deliver the highest level of service. As your Mayor, I had the honor of overseeing the consolidation of our fire department with Belmont, Foster City and San Mateo. This consolidation provides additional fire fighting resources at a lower cost to Foster City. As your councilmember, I will continue to work hard to make sure that our police and firefighters have the resources and training they need to keep our neighborhoods safe and protected.
PROMOTE, SUPPORT AND DIVERSIFY BUSINESS
As a local small business owner and former Chair of the Board of Directors for Foster City’s Chamber of Commerce, I have first-hand knowledge of the challenges and opportunities facing our business community. Moreover, I have come to appreciate just how the critical linkage between the economic health of our community and the success of our businesses. We must protect, maintain, promote and grow the economic and business resources in Foster City while we strive to enhance the quality of life in the community and protect its natural resources.
AFFORDABLE HOUSING AND DIVERSITY
The cost of housing in our community and the Bay Area has reached unprecedented levels. We have witnessed the loss of community members due to the lack of affordable housing. I will work to address preserving and increasing our stock of affordable housing so our teachers, firefighters, nurses and others who serve our community can live among us if they choose to.
PROVIDE FISCAL ACCOUNTABILITY AND MAINTAIN A BALANCED BUDGET
By creating a new vision and adopting a new long-term strategy, we will need to make sure necessary funds are dedicated to building a sustainable future to continue to enhance our quality of life in Foster City. As a councilmember, I will review and explore diversified revenue sources to make sure that smart and responsible initiatives that embrace the economic, social and environmental needs of our community are met. In doing so, I will commit to making sure fiscal accountability is in place and that we strive for a balanced budget.
PROTECT PARKS AND OPEN SPACE
As a former Vice-chair of Foster City's Parks and Recreation Committee, I am passionate about protecting and maintaining our parks and open space. As councilmember, I will continue to push for expanded public access for our parks and open space and I would work to enhance the "play" area in Foster City for our families, residents, workforce and visitors.
